PIMPRI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators Rajendra Gawde and Karuna Chinchwade were elected members of the Standing Committee of PCMC. They replaced two BJP corporators who resigned as members of the Committee.

There are total 16 members of the committee which includes 10 members from BJP,  4 from NCP, one from Shiv Sena and one independent corporator.

Earlier, BJP members Rahul Jadhav and Sheetal Shinde resigned following selection of  Mamta Gaikwad, MLA Laxman Jagtap’s supporter as  chairperson of the committee. Both Jadhav and Shinde were interested in the post of chairperson.

According to sources, BJP is planning to replace mayor and leader of the house in June. Sources say Jadhav and Shinde may stand a chance to get selected for the top posts. Jadhav is a supporter of MLA Mahesh Landge, while Shinde is a party loyalist for many years.  Both Gawde and Chinchwade were elected during General Body meeting on Friday.
